Sutasi, the talent quest to discover singers and songwriters in Asia for the global market, will hold live auditions in various Asian cities in November.
Auditions have been locked in for Bangkok, Thailand: 8-9 November; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: 12-13 November; Jakarta, Indonesia: 16-17 November; Manila, Philippines: 20-21 November; and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam: 24-25 November. The Bangkok auditions will take place at the Landmark Hotel (138 Sukhumvit Rd, Bangkok) at 10am on the 8 November for solo artists and 9 November for bands with the first 100 applicants guaranteed to be auditioned.
12 finalists will be shortlisted for the Sutasi shows which will start in February for the South-East Asia region.
The winner of that sector will take part in the Asian final in October 2008.
"We are enthusiastic about the reception we have received since the launch of Sutasi last month," said Asia Sounds President and founder Colleen Zulian. "But we're also realistic of the fact that there are talented people out there who do not have access to recording equipment or the internet, which makes it very challenging for them to submit samples of their work to us. Live auditions are our way of saying 'Everyone is important to us, not just those with technical capabilities'."
Unlike Idol, Sutasi is looking for music talent, not reality TV show stars. "People sometimes confuse Sutasi with a music reality show, which it is not," said Ms. Zulian. "The purpose of Sutasi is to find the best singers and songwriters in Asia and then to provide the resources to market them on a global stage whilst also encouraging, nurturing and developing that talent."
