Development plans in New York City may mean that the heritage Madison Square Garden may soon be demolished.
The City of New York unveiled a $14 billion plan for the redevelopment of Penn Station this week. Madison Square Garden, on New York's 8th Avenue, is housed on top of the Penn Station underground.In planning for the destruction of Madison Square Garden, the city did announce that they would rebuild the historic venue on Ninth Avenue.
Madison Square Garden is one of the most famous music and sports venues in the world. It was where the Rolling Stones recorded 'Get Yer Ya Ya's Out' and Elton John performed his 60th Anniversary show. Madison Square Garden was the home to George Harrison's Concert for Bangla Desh.
Penn Station delivers 500,000 train passengers every day.
If the plan goes ahead, the new Madison Square Garden won't be finished until 2011.
The Penn Station reconstruction is expected to be finished in 2018.
