The first musical popularity contest of the season, the American Music Awards, have announced their nominees.
Also, 2007 sees the first year for the American Music Awards to include online voting for the show, which is essentially a popularity contest, with results previously drawn from music buyer polls.This is reflected in the nominees. Favourite Male Artist will be fought out by Akon, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Favourite Female Artist is between Beyonce, Fergie and Avril Lavigne. Linkin Park, Maroon 5 and Nickleback are the choices for Favourite Group. Favourite Album is a choice of Daughtry's self-titled effort, Linkin Park's 'Minutes To Midnight' and JT's 'FutureSex/Love Sounds'.
Specialist categories include country, soul/R&B, adult contemporary, alternative rock, contemporary inspirational, soundtracks and Favourite Breakthrough Artist (Robin Thicke, Plain White T's and Daughtry).
Jimmy Kimmel will host the event on Sunday November 18, with Daughtry, Celine Dion, Rihanna, and Fergie are all confirmed to perform.
