Maybe, maybe not. But what a fun a toy!!!! I'm talking about the All-Star Guitar Controller for iPad that transforms an iPad into a full size guitar.
The Ion Guitar Apprentice is a little bit more "real" than Guitar Hero for example, plus you get to plug it into a real amp if you so choose, otherwise you can use the internal speakers or headphones, it doesn't need external connection or cables so you can play it anyhwere, anytime.
All you need is an iPad and away you go. It's also compatible with Apple GarageBand software and features a range of effects and styles. Players are able to play along with any song from their iTunes library which makes for an albeit big time geeky but fun Satdee arvo pursuit.
I can't vouch for how well the you would learn guitar with this thing, but retailing at around the equivalent of 10 packets of cigarettes it's worth while getting for the fun factor.

Of course, it could never replace a real guitar for rock & roll kicks and I don't reckon anyone would want you in their band with one. (hee, hee, unless you all had one?)
