Motorhead, Rose Tattoo and Airbourne all on one stage and the Forum stage at that! It's like a rock 'n' roll rebel's wet dream and last night it came true.
A young Airbourne must've been slapping themselves watching Rose Tattoo belt out an hour of Australian rock classics while the stage was still dripping with their sweat.At 9.30 a provocative Lemmy fronted an hour and a half of balls-to-the-wall rock 'n' roll, mocking the crowd "This is a song we released in 1983... before any of you were born."
"Who here likes Thin Lizzy? What about the rest of you? Don't you know them or something? Phil Lynott? The only black Irishman I ever met!" Lemmy said to the surprisingly unenthusiastic crowd (who probably genuinely didn't know Thin Lizzy) before launching into the Thin Lizzy version of Bob Seger's 'Rosalie'.
Before closing the main set with 'Killed By Death', Lemmy told the crowd "this is the last song. If you cheer, we'll come back. You know how it works."
Apparently he thought the tame crowd worthy. They came back with 'Whorehouse Blues' from 2004's 'Inferno' album, their signature tune 'Ace Of Spades' and closed with 'Overkill'.
The show was what Motorhead do best. Ninety minutes of punk-infused heavy metal in front of an old-school stage covered in good old fashioned par cans and came complete with drum solo.
So, despite the crowd, despite the dickhead who threw beer over Lemmy mid-song, despite the frighteningly overpriced tickets, it was a deafening experience, but a great one nonetheless.
