Reports from the eleventh Warped Tour reveal fractures between new-school punks and old/new-school punks.
A story from VH1 reveals that the most recent Warped Tour has featured an unprecedented number of bands pulling out and onstage rivalries between the new generation of screamo punk bands and the pop-punk that emerged in the '90s.Various reasons - health, internal issues, even bus repairs - has led to From First To Last, Gatsby's American Dream, Underoath, Mewithoutyou, Spitalfield, and Gogol Bordello, to pull out of the travelling punk rock circus.
Also, differing attitudes of emo punk newcomers and the veterans of the tour have caused on- and offstage rivalries. Fat Mike, of legendary pop-punk heroes NOFX, repeatedly lambasted young Christian screamo outfit Underoath, even going so far as to jokingly attend one of their bible study meetings. He said, "They're a weird band. I was going to go after them as soon as I found out they were on the tour." He also was irritated by the "rock star" attitude of acts like From First To Last.
Ska-punk stalwarts Less Than Jake mocked the vocals of metalcore act Every Time I Die onstage, who responded by calling them "washed up". The constant tensions were eventually parodied by bands Silverstein and Motion City Soundtrack, who set up a mock-rivalry.
