Early reports of sales in the Kanye VS Fiddy sales battle put Mr. West on top.
Yes, in the lead-up to the landmark September 11 release date for both Kanye West's 'Graduation' and 50 Cent's 'Curtis', the more gangsta of the two said that if he sells less than the more dapper of the two, he'll hang up his G-Unit kicks.Early reports suggest that music lovers' dreams may come true. Billboard has reported on the observations of three major label executives, whose job, in part, is to project weekly sales on first day statistics. The Neilson Soundscan week officially ends at midnight on Sunday and the executives projected West would sell between 575,000-700,000 while 50 Cent is just behind in the 500,000-600,000 range. But a quick straw poll by Billboard of an urban-oriented store noted Fiddy in front with 144 to 91 copies sold.
Blender Magazine also spent time in New York's Virgin Megastore sussing out the competition. They concluded that it was a mostly Kanye crowd, right in Fiddy's hometown. Then again, Blender writers admitted to buying a copy of 'Graduation' themselves and have been decidedly pro-West throughout the lead-up to the showdown.
