Some of you may have heard of the internet phenomenon Beatallica - a band that does Beatles songs in the style of Metallica - but how many of you knew how high up into the echelons of metal royalty their presence has been felt?
The band are made up of singer Jaymz Lenninfield, Grg Hammetson, Ringo Lars and Cliff McBurtony.Guitarist Grg Hammettson (get it?) told Undercover, "It all started as a joke. There is a thing in Milwaukee called Spoof Fest on April Fools Day each year and one year Jaymz [Lenninfeild] thought it'd be a good idea to be Metallica doing Beatles covers and it just took off.
"Lars Ulrich [of Metallica] really helped us out when we had a cease and desist order, which you can see on our website."
"We do get people who say 'What are you guys doing?', but a lot of people really love it."
The band formed in 2001 and simply put some songs on the internet. Before they knew it they were touring the world, quite literally.
The band has played in Europe and recently South Korea and have plans to come down to Australia and New Zealand, if they can justify the expense of touring.
"When a band tours outside their own continent, it's very expensive, so you have to be able to justify the cost by knowing that people are going to turn up and see your band."
With songs like 'The Thing That Should Not Let It Be', 'Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band' (which is also the name of their latest LP), 'Revol-oooh-tion', and 'A Garage Dayz Night', I dare you to listen to Beatallica and not at least have a chuckle.
