Doc Neeson's billing as Doc Neeson's Angels on the Countdown Spectacular 2 shows has sparked a bitter statement from the original band.
Neeson left the band in 2000 and has now started touring in their name.At the band's official website, they state "Doc Neeson resigned from The Angels in 2000. He left the band of his own volition and announced this to the media at the time".
"Four years ago four of the original five members of the band, John, Rick, Chris and Buzz, after a chance reunion on stage at a benefit concert for victims of the Bali tragedy, decided to continue on, initially as The Original Angels Band (this was to avoid confusion as to who was, or wasn't in the band) and since November 2006, as The Angels".
"The Angels will not be performing on the Countdown 2 spectacular".
The Angels members in 2007 are John Brewster (vocals, rhythm guitar), Rick Brewster (Lead guitar, backing vocals), Chris Bailey (Bass, backing vocals) and Graham 'Buzz' Bidstrup (Drums, backing vocals).
Neeson started performing as Red Phoenix in 2005 with former Angels bass player Jim Hilbun and guitarist David Lowy but changed the name to Doc Neeson's Angels this year for the Countdown 2 Spectacular.
To confuse the fans even further, Neeson's Angels have just released the 'Acoustic Sessions' album featuring new versions of the old Angels hits, while the original Angels have released the DVD 'Live At The Basement' also featuring the old Angels hits.
Doc Neeson's Angels will tour the East Coast of Australia in September and October. The Original Angels are on tour this week in Victoria.
