The 100 Best Australian Albums will be revealed in a new book from John O’Donnell, Toby Creswell and Craig Mathieson tomorrow (October 27, 2010) but Undercover has the scoop on the Top 20.
According to the book Midnight Oil’s ‘Diesel and Dust’ is the best Australian album.
There were no surprises finding AC/DC, Crowded House, Cold Chisel, The Easybeats, Paul Kelly and Skyhooks in the Top 10. The Triffids and The Avalanches were interesting inclusions though considering they beat every INXS, Hunters & Collectors and Nick Cave album in the list.
‘The 100 Best Australian Albums’ digs deep into the Australian music psyche name-checking great works by The Birthday Party, Silverchair, Hoodoo Gurus, Rose Tattoo, The Living End, The Saints and Daddy Cool along the way.
‘The 100 Best Australian Albums’ is O’Donnell’s first book. John was the former music editor for Rolling Stones Australia and CEO of EMI Australasia. Toby Creswell was a former editorial of Rolling Stone and author of Too Much Ain’t Enough and The Real Thing: Adventures in Australian Rock N Roll 1957-now. Mathieson was the author of Hi-Fi Ways and Sell-in.
Hardie Grant will release the book tomorrow.
As well, this Friday October 29, Sony Music will release the 5CD ‘Songs From The 100 Best Australian Albums’.
