Humble pastoral indie folksters The Smallgoods announce their third album 'Down On The Farm'.
Billed as their most ambitious effort to date, the quaint, sepia-toned quartet have taken inspiration from the sun-dappled countryside of Australia. Not only is the title reflective of the spacious sound but the album was recorded in high-tech city studios and lo-fi country outposts. Lead single is 'Traipse Through The Valley', a backwoods curio with sombre harmonies at a trotting pace and speckled with percussive effects. The Smallgoods have welcomed guests to the campfire circle, including Sodastream's Pete Cohen on double bass, Jodi Phillis from The Clouds on vocals, Paul Rigby from The Rectifiers on pedal steel and banjo and ex-Lemonhead and Sneeze Nic Dalton on coconuts (!). The group also recruited a choir of Melbourne musicians, thirty-strong, for songs 'You've Got A Friend' and 'South Of The River'.
The album is out now, and the band play three intriguing launch shows in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne with special guests.
