J.J. Cale is about to open his vaults and release for the first time songs recorded in the 70s.
"Hearing them took me back to what I was doing then and where I was when I was doing it," says Cale in a statement. "It's like looking at old family photographs."The album 'Rewind: Unreleased Songs' will unveil 8 songs written by Cale plus 'Golden Ring' by Eric Clapton, 'My Cricket' from Leon Russell, 'Waymore Blues' from Waylon Jennings and 'Rollin' by Randy Newman.
Musicans playing on the album include including guitarist Richard Thompson, Tim Drummond on bass (Neil Young), Glen D. Hardin on piano (Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley, Gram Parsons), Muscle Shoals studio band member Spooner Oldham on organ, and drummer Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan, John Lennon) among others.
Despite his international success with songs such as 'After Midnight', 'Cocaine' and 'Crazy Mama', Cale has remained somewhat of a recluse in the music business. "I'm a guitarist and a songwriter and I got lucky," he explains. "I'm not a showbiz kind of guy. I had the passion to do music as much as anybody. But I never wanted to be the patsy up front and I still don't want to be famous."
'Rewind: Unreleased Songs' will be released on October 2nd.
