Up With Michael Franti And Ben Lee

Organic roots rock hero Michael Franti brings the UP! Festival to Australia

Franti has founded the music and art festival as an antidote to cynicism. While the event is undoubtedly greenie and inclusive in its focus, Franti says, "My goal is to put on a kick-ass f*cking show! When people leave the festival, I want them to feel inspired and motivated. We are living in an era of cynicism. One thing that kills cynicism for me is a healthy dose if fun."

He's brining band Spearhead to the country, as well as enlisting some of Australia's most sanguine songwriters for the event. Uber-positive imp Ben Lee will be playing tunes from his new album 'Ripe' as well as songs from his implacable back catalogue. Everywhere-collective Blue King Brown bring their rootsy world sounds. And globetrotter Old Man River will open up the shows.

Hobart has an abridged line-up, just with Spearhead and Blue King Brown. Tickets for all shows go on sale July 31.

Tour Dates:
Friday September 14 - Challenge Stadium, Perth
Sunday September 16 - Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide
Tuesday September 18 - Derwent Entertainment Centre, Hobart
Wednesday September 19 - AIS Arena, Canberra
Thursday September 20 - Festival Hall, Melbourne
Friday September 21 - Horden Pavilion, Sydney
Saturday September 22 - Riverstage, Brisbane
