Davey Havok and Jade Puget from emo-rockers AFI announce their Blaqk Audio side project.
The duo have been working on the synth-heavy effort since 2003. Blaqk Audio took a backseat to their main project when AFI exploded into the mainstream after 2003's 'Sing The Sorrow' album. At Live Earth in New Jersey, Havoc told MTV that the project is "very different from AFI". Judging by the first single 'Stiff Kittens' it is markedly different in instrumentation but not in mood. Inspired by the dark electro-pop of Depeche Mode and Echo And The Bunnymen, Blaqk Audio describe themselves on their myspace page as "two boys in love with synthesizers and software."
Havok is handling the lyrics and vocals, his ethereal sound and bleak themes perfectly suiting the brooding synthesiser programming of Puget. Havoc insists, "We worked with each other", then the music was mixed by producer and engineer David Bascombe, whose efforts with Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears suits Blaqk Audio's sound.
Blaqk Audio's debut album 'CexCells' is due for release on August 14, with the first single 'Stiff Kittens' already available.
