You Am I’s Tim Rogers and Davey Lane “crave cheese” on a classic rock side project.
Rogers told triplej that their new exercise in up-vibe stadium rock will be genuinely sincere and untainted by recent ironic appreciation of the much-maligned genre.
He said, “It's less of a pastiche and more a celebration of the things that you won't do when making a record. Like, let’s not put that there, that might be too much cheese. Well, I crave cheese. Night Street’s going to be... everything we’ve been told not to do we’re going to do.”
Rogers said he was inspired by a barfly in LA, who was a nut for bands of the era “when singers could sing”.
Rogers and Lane wrote fifteen songs in three days for the project, and will go “head-long” into Night Street when they get the opportunity, possibly following You Am I’s album tour.
Judging by the success of fist-pumping tracks like Bluejuice’s ‘Broken Leg’, it might just work.
While we wait, have a look at Undercover’s recent chat with Davey Lane and Tony Featherstone.
