Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has released a second album with side project The Bombastic Meatbats.
The freak-funk jam band consists of Jeff Kollman from Cosmosquad, Kevin Chown who has played bass for Ted Nugent and Uncle Kracker, and keyboardist Ed Roth.
The band play live, but when Chad is on Chili Pepper duty they have honorary Meatbats in Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver) and Kenny Aronoff (Smashing Pumpkins, Stryper).
Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats released their debut Meet The Meatbats last year and their second album More Meat came out last week.
Smith told Spin Magazine, “We're not trying to compete with the Lady Gagas of the world — this is just a fun thing for us.”
If you haven’t worked it out yet, it’s a pretty goofy exercise, with song titles such as ‘Mountain Of Meat’, ‘And We All Swing The Tuna’, ‘Greasy Louise’ and ‘Lobster Legs’.
The group will do some select dates in California and New York through October and November.
