Antescene - an organization dedicated to being, well, anti scene - is soon to hold their first Australian event. The night is dedicated to giving new and unknown bands a place to play.
The term "organization" is used very loosely, with the man behind the concept, Chris Chinchilla telling Undercover "My idea is that it's a loose thing. IT doesn't necessarily have to be me that organizes things. If someone in Sydney wants to do it, then they're more than welcome to, whether they do it under that name or another name... as I'm sure they already do, that's fine. It's really more of a concept."Two shows have been held in London, one at an abandoned tyre warehouse and one at a North London gallery.
Chinchilla, a former member of indie rockers Art Brut and current member of Macaca Mulatta - a formerly London based, now Melbourne based indie rock band.
The Contrast, Greengreengreen, Macaca Mulatta and Love is Science Fiction will be playing at the first Melbourne Antescene gig, which will happen this Saturday (June 30) at Irene's on Pitt Street, Brunswick for $5.
All Antescene gigs are all ages.
Chinchilla said, "[The bands are] not always necessarily going to be unknown. It's more with the intention of hopefully having maybe a bill of three unknown and one known to hopefully bring some people in. Hopefully making it all ages will help and this one is with friends of the earth as well, so they've helped out a lot."
