This weekend, the first Australian International Music Show comes to Melbourne.
Over the next two days, musicians and music fans can check out gear, watch performances and attend masterclasses.
Bruce Kulick from Kiss and Grand Funk, Chris Cheney from The Living End, Vanessa Amorosi, Dan Kelly, Jeff Martin from The Tea Party, Bertie Blackman, Paris Wells and Kate Ceberano are just a few of the names attending.
AIMS is on at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

SATURDAY 2ND OCTOBER
Brass Fanfare: 9am Saturday
Stefan Cassomenos Composer, pianist and member of the Yarra Trio has composed a brass fanfare which will include over 200 brass instruments. The fanfare will be performed by delegates at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass

Journey Through The Blues: Chris Wilson/Ian Collard/Jimi Hocking/ Shannon Bourne: panel: 10:30am
What does the blues mean in modern age music, how do you get that authentic blues sound? Local Blues icon, vocal and harp powerhouse, Chris Wilson, blues harp player and popular live artist, Ian Collard, guitar marstro, solo artist and sometime Screaming Jet Jimi Hocking and singer, songwriter, guitarist Shannon Bourne join Greg Philips to answer these questions and more! A possible jam to shake up the room is not out of the question!
Kate Ceberano: workshop: 11am
Kate is without a doubt one of this country’s most talented, respected and loved female vocalists. Kate shares her love of singing, the tips of the trade in a vocal coaching workshop for 15 lucky people.
Jeff Martin: workshop and performance: 11:45am
Jeff Martin is one of Canada's pre-eminent musicians, having fronted the seminal rock band The Tea Party from 1990 to 2005 and now with The Armada. Jeff first took up guitar at the age of eight, forming his first band at the age of 11. A regular visitor to Australia, we catch him just before he goes into the studio for his next solo album. His workshop will include some performance time.
The Verses: Ella and Jesse Hooper: Australian Musician Presents: midday
No strangers to music and two of our finest songwriters - Jesse and Ella Hooper chat to Greg Philips and perform some new songs in this relaxed but informative session.
Jeremy Prentice: workshop at 1pm
Ever felt the urge to get into the cool African jive? Here’s your chance! This is a fun ’everyone join in’ sort of session where you’ll get to tune into the traditional West African groove on a djembe … simple beats, layering, polyrhythms, accentuation and counterpoint ….. master the basics and have a great time doing it! No experience necessary, but a bit of experience means you’ll get more out of it.
Robben Ford: workshop: 2pm **
A four-time Grammy nominee, Blues guitarist Robben Ford has played with artists as diverse as Joni Mitchell, Jimmy Witherspoon, Miles Davis, George Harrison, Phil Lesh, Bonnie Raitt, Claus Ogerman and Michael McDonald.
James Morrison: workshop at 2:15pm
James Morrison is one of Australia’s finest jazz musicians who plays numerous instruments, but is best known for his trumpet playing. He is a multi-instrumentalist, having performed on the clarinet, soprano saxophone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, flugelhorn, bass flugelhorn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and piano.

In conversation with Greg Phillips, editor of Australian Musician – these talented woman will talk about songwriting, their music and being a woman in our industry.

Learn the play the ukulele in 20 minutes. Guaranteed. That’s Mike Jackson’s promise, so drop in any time on Sunday from 2.30pm until 5pm and take him up on it! Uke is one of the most popular instruments in Australia. Fun, easy to learn and you can take it anywhere! Sunday. 2.30pm to 4.15pm in rolling 20 minute sessions.

Jonathan Moffett: Masterclass: 3:30pm
He's toured with Madonna, Elton John, the Jacksons, Janet Jackson and Lionel Ritchie As well. he's played on Arsenio Hall, Jay Leno and many more TV shows. Musician, songwriter and producer, Jonathan Moffett is a astonishing drummer. His clinic will be built around a tribute to Michael Jackson who he spent time working with during rehearsals for the ‘This Is It’ tour.

What is the role of the record producer? How do you develop that unique sound, what makes great bands or artists sound so different. Greg Philips will ask the experts! Ryan Ritchie is a Melbourne based singer, songwriter, musician and producer best known for his work with ‘True Live’ and his production on Paris Wells two albums. Stuart Crichton is an all rounder! (Skyhooks, The Angels) is running group coaching sessions. At the end of which you’ll be able to play one song, or at least the signature riff. Guitars and all gear provided. Sign up at AIMS. Groups are limited to 20 people per session.

Jaime Vendera:
He's a vocal coach. Specialising in metal bands .. where the singer's voice is under serious pressure night after night. He helps them protect their voice as well as build power and range. And he can break a glass with his voice. He gives his tips on how to get more from your voice (and protect it).
Saturday at 4.00pm and repeated on Sunday at 2.00pm. These sessions are both two hours long.

Bruce Kulick
Most know him from KISS (1984-1996) where his influence on the sound is seminal to the band’s massive success, but Bruce Kulick’s career is way broader. It’s his guitar you heard on tour with Meat Loaf and Bat out of Hell. Currently he’s with Grand Funk Railroad and a solo artist. Melbourne DJ performer André Cato is running a series of Get into DJ for novices and those who have only recently begun. He’s invited a number of special guests to assist. Saturday from 2.15pm. Four sessions running for 30-45 minutes each. Sessions will repeat on Sunday.

Benjamin Last has been a music producer for 16 years and is also a private home studio teacher, configuration problem fixer and equipment consultant.
