Forbes' annual Celebrity ranking sees less influence from musicians.
In 2006, seventeen musicians, singers and industry moguls populated the chart, but in 2007, only fourteen have risen to the top of the celebrity index of money, power and influence. The list is compiled from annual earnings but also from "media metrics", like Google hits, mentions in print, on TV and radio as well as cover appearances on magazines.Newcomers in the music sphere in 2007 include Jay-Z (due to his lucrative return from "retirement"), Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake and Tim McGraw. Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, The Eagles, Rod Stewart and Jennifer Lopez are among music industry identities that have dropped off the list.
The Rolling Stones slip down two spots to four, U2 have dropped eighteen positions to number 22, and 50 Cent dropped from number eight to number 32. Madonna didn't feature in 2006 but is up at number three in 2007 due to her highly lucrative Confessions tour. Celine Dion moved up four positions despite only releasing a French-language album in May but continuing her hugely successful Las Vegas residency.
