Never renowned for their music's inherent danceabilty, Radiohead will nonetheless provide the soundtrack for a new ballet to debut at the renowned Edinburgh International Festival in August.
Choreographer Stephen Petronio has enlisted the Scottish Ballet for the piece, to be titled 'Ride The Beast'. It will begin with the ambient, computer-generated spoken-word track 'Fitter Happier' from 1997's 'OK Computer' opus, and will be followed by four more pieces from the band's extensive musical catalogue.Petronio told 'The Herald' newspaper, "Radiohead's music is a brilliant investigation of achingly modern taste. They sail through genre and form effortlessly and passionately, and their music demands a physical response from me that by-passes reason. I have to live with music so intimately while creating with it, I simply have to work with music I love."
The choreographer has previously incorporated the music of Lou Reed, James Lavelle and Rufus Wainwright into his productions. 'Ride The Beast' runs from August 18-20 at Edinburgh's Playhouse Theatre.
