The rules have been rewritten for The Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden' to debut at number one in the USA this week.
Originally, the album did not qualify for the Billboard chart because of a ruling stating that titles must be available generally. 'Long Road Out Of Eden' is available exclusively to the Wal-Mart chain in America. This afternoon, Nielsen SoundScan, who compile the chart, and Billboard, the publisher of the chart, agreed to make the Eagles an exception to the rule and allow the Wal-Mart figures to contribute to the chart.
And with good reason too. 'Long Road Out Of Eden' will debut at number one in the USA this week with sales of around 711,000.
That's great news for the Eagles but bad news for Britney Spears. Before the rules were bent, Britney was on track for the number by spot but fell short by more than half of the Eagles sales.
'Long Road Out Of Eden' is the first Eagles album in 28 years.
It also debuted at number one in Australia and the UK this week.
