Dolly Parton is about to become a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of Tanasi.
The country superstar will officially join the scouts on June 15 at a presentation at her Dollywood theme park, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee."While I was never a Girl Scout myself when I was a kid, I always wanted to be," says Parton. "This great honor lets me live out a dream and to be part of an organization that stands for many of the same values I do and Dollywood does."
There are more than 10,000 girl scouts in the region of Southern Tennessee. 1,000 will attend Dolly's indoctrination.
"Dolly realizes the importance of a program that helps girls grow into young women of courage and confidence," says Glenda McCarter-Johnson, board chair of Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council and Parton's childhood friend. "She wants to let these girls know just how much they are appreciated for the work they do for the community."
To her fellow scouts, Dolly will become a sister.
The Girl Scouts was founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low. There are now nearly 4 million girl scouts in the USA.
