Mamas & the Papas singer Michelle Phillips has confirmed that the seminal sixties group will be the subject of a forthcoming biopic.
To be based on her 1986 book 'California Dreamin' - The True Story Of The Mamas & the Papas', Phillips told Billboard, "we have an A-list writer and we do have a studio... "It's not something I can really talk about in detail, but I will say this - it will happen, and it will happen in a good way. The gears are all churning."Phillips, the sole surviving member of the group, added that the success of films such as 'Ray', 'Walk The Line' and 'Dreamgirls' proved that studios and audiences are interested in the big screen retelling of the stories of famed musicians.
"Before that," she said, "studios were not interested in stories about musicians. I mean, this is not a musical, per se; this is not a musical like 'Dreamgirls' where people are gonna break out into songs. This is the story of the Mamas and the Papas - and, of course, there'll be a lot of music in it."
