The classic 'MTV Unplugged' series is being revived once more.
Over the years since it began, some of the world's most popular artists have performed 'unplugged' and acoustic for MTV. The inspiration for the 'MTV Unplugged' series, which began in 1989 with Squeeze, Syd Straw and Elliot Easton, is credited to a Bon Jovi 'unplugged' appearance on the 1989 MTV Music Awards. Now Bon Jovi return to kick off the 2007 series. The long-standing Jersey rockers will perform on June 22, and for the first time the concept will be continued via the VH1 and CMT channels. It's almost unnecessary for Bon Jovi to 'unplug' this time, as they'll include songs from their forthcoming 'Lost Highway' album which is said to be far more country-oriented.
Other acts mooted for the forthcoming series include The Police, Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney, Mary J. Blige and John Mayer, although many of these acts won't have to stretch as much to adhere to the format. Billboard reports that there is no other concrete details about the other acts. It does suggest that The Police will hold their performance in Miami in mid-July and that there has been talk of releasing an album of acoustic renditions of their old material.
