Silverchair and Katy Steele snare doubles at Australia's lubricious live music gongs, The Jack Awards.
The Jack Awards have taken place for a fourth time in Sydney, featuring Australia's finest live acts. The nation's most rock n' roll outfit Airbourne kicked off the proceedings with a sweaty live extravaganza before the devil-horned awards were issued.Katy Steele of Little Birdy managed to pick up a double, for Best Dressed and Best Female Performer. And Silverchair nabbed two, Daniel Johns getting best male performer and Ben Gillies deemed the Best Drummer. The dream band was filled out by Best Lead Guitarist Chris Cheney from The Living End and Best Bassist Andy Kent from You Am I.
Understandably, Wolfmother scored the Best Live Band nod, and Sydney's Red Riders were deemed the Best newcomers of the last year. Michael Gudinski scored the Gentleman Jack Award for services to the Australian live music industry.
Entertainment came from Beasts Of Bourbon, Mercy Arms, Howling Bells and a You Am I tribute to the late Billy Thorpe. Awards were presented by everyone from Hamish & Andy and 2006's Miss Australia Erin McNaught to Merrick & Rosso and Tom Williams.
