Human train wreck Pete Doherty has opened a UK exhibition featuring paintings in his own blood.
The Babyshambles singer, supermodel beau and legal system regular has opened an exhibition at Notting Hill's Bankrobber Gallery (which has also hosted work by renowned graffiti artist Banksy).Titled 'Bloodworks', it reportedly features 14 pieces - four large canvasses and ten smaller prints - many of which are conspicuously rendered in Doherty's blood.
Spokesman for the gallery, Robin Barton, said of Doherty's curious choice of medium: "His use of blood lends itself perfectly to exploring the extraordinary personal and physical intensity that characterises so much of Peter's life and work as an artist in the broadest sense."
He is expected to collect tens of thousands of pounds for the pieces, which will be on show for four weeks. Some of the pieces are reportedly lifted from his forthcoming diaries, titled 'The Books Of Albion: The Collected Writings Of Pete Doherty'. The diaries were written during his stints in prison and rehab.
While the artwork is already worth a hefty sum, if his former Libertines bandmate Carl Barat's prediction that "he could end up dead in a few years if he doesn't sort himself out" comes to pass, they could be quite a lucrative investment.
