In its first year as a an independent participant, Serbia has taken out this year's Eurovision song contest in Helsinki.
The contest was dominated by the states of the former Eastern Bloc, with Serbia beating out Ukraine and Russia. Bulgaria, Belarus, Armenia, Hungary and Moldova also polled well in what turned out to be the campest Eurovision in the event's history. But it was Serbia's Marija Serifovic who won hearts across Europe with a soaring, ridiculously clich??d power ballad. Whilst the tune, 'Molitva', was eerily reminiscent of Australian songstress Delta Goodrem's hit 'Lost Without You', Serifovic's appearance bore a closer resemblance to Alex Lloyd.
Ukraine's Verka Serduchka was the pre-competition favourite, their garish mirrored costumes and flamboyant synth-pop reminiscent of the Pet Shop Boys, but more gay.
The United Kingdom's entry was an unmitigated disgrace, with the puerile flight attendant humour and bad 90s pop of four-piece Scooch seeing them relegated to second last place in the final.
Other highlights included German entrant Roger Cicero, that country's answer to Justin Timberlake, and Moldova's Natalia Barbu, who was really, really hot.
