UK tabloid Sunday Express suggests that a new Beatles song is in the works.
The newspaper reports that the legendary group, who have been long-time hold-outs in the digital music arena, will release a new song online alongside their back catalogue in the middle of 2007.The song, dubbed 'Now And Then', is apparently mere fragments, a chorus without verses. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will reportedly reassemble the track for release. Starr will add new drums to the recorded parts of the Lennon ballad. An archived George Harrison performance will be added and McCartney will complete the song.
Originally 'Now And Then' was to be the third of the "new" songs on their Anthologies, following 'Free As A Bird' and 'Real Love'. ELO's Jeff Lynne, who helped produce the three 'Anthology' albums of 1995 and 1996, has said that they worked on 'Now And Then' for one afternoon of the sessions. He is quoted as saying at the time, "It was a very sweet song; I liked it a lot, and I wished we could have finished it."
For now we can only hope that the remaining Beatles will do the song justice and that their catalogue will finally be available digitally.
