A tribute album has been confirmed for cult Brisbane indie rock outfit The Go-Betweens.
Australian indie rock royalty Dan Kelly, Sarah Blasko and Glenn Richards of Augie March are just three of the acts to contribute to 'Write Your Adventures Down'. The album will be released on Sony BMG offshoot The Red Label on June 11.While the band was mostly ignored by the public, The Go-Betweens were universally acclaimed by critics and hugely influential to other musicians both in their home country and abroad. Running from 1977 to 1989, their music centred around the sublime songwriting partnership of Robert Forster and Grant McLennan.
In their time, the duo were described by legendary Village Voice music critic Robert Christgau as "the greatest songwriting partnership working today".
The band returned in 2000 and won an ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album for their final 2005 album Oceans Apart released a year before McLennan died of a heart attack.
'Write Your Adventures Down' follows an earlier Go-Betweens tribute album 'Love Goes On!' from US label Rare Victory featuring The Bats, The Orchids, Clientele and Portatastic.
