The BBC is working on an all-star release to mark the 40th anniversary of The Beatles 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' this year.
The line-up for the album is reported to include Oasis, The Killers, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, James Morrison and Fratellis performing on a new version of the album. The Beatles 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' was released on June 1, 1967.
The album was the follow-up to 'Revolver' which hinted at the sounds of Pepper with tracks like 'Tomorrow Never Knows' and 'Eleanor Rigby' but it was Pepper that took the Indian influences and pop sensibilities and molded them into the classic album we know today.
'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' was the first true rock album, as opposed to a collection of songs or singles. In fact, it didn't feature any singles, an amazing thing at the time when an album was still viewed as a collection of singles.
Despite the non-reliance on the single, the album spawned the classics 'With A Little Help From My Friend', 'When I'm 64' and 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds'.
The BBC 40th anniversary tribute is expected to be released on June 1st to mark the 40th anniversary of the original release.
