Two of Australia's most loved female artists – songstress Katie Noonan and classical guitarist KarinSchaupp released their first full-length album in 2012 – Songs of the Southern Skies. The reaction from the Australian public was overwhelming and the music industry recognised this unique and exquisite album with two ARIA Award nominations. A sell-out national tour followed to rave reviews.
Although 2013 sees both Katie and Karin busy in their solo careers and other collaborations in Australia and overseas, their love of performing together has inspired them to reunite for some further Songs of the Southern Skies concerts. Seven more performances in Queensland, Victoria and South Australia have just been announced.
The Songs of the Southern Skies concerts and album explore music close to home and very close to their hearts, featuring some of Australia and New Zealand's best classical, folk, jazz and pop songs - from the Finn Brothers, Cold Chisel, Nick Cave, Icehouse, Bic Runga, Gurrumul, The Easybeats, Vince Jones and Gotye, through to traditional folk songs, a piece by Richard Charlton and a new Elena Kats-Chernin work - written especially for Katie and Karin. With new arrangements, the songs are performed with the intimate combination of Noonan's angelic andversatile voice and Schaupp's lyrical and fiery guitar.
