WOMAD 2007 has announced that founder Peter Gabriel will perform on the UK leg.
Just days after Genesis announced their reformation without their original lead singer Gabriel, the solo artist has announced his return to the world music festival he helped set up 25 years ago.Gabriel said in a statement, "It is different from any other festival I've ever been to, and although I usually get to enjoy it from the audience rather than the stage, I am delighted to come back as a performer for this 25th anniversary. Thomas Brooman (WOMAD Managing & Artistic Director) has a wonderful, passionate team that have built something quite extraordinary, that is now becoming a national institution."
The World Of Music, Arts And Dance festival was founded in 1982 with a shared interest in cross-promoting the variety of music and dance from all corners of the globe, mostly to a Western audience. It has been held in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, Singapore, the UK, Sri Lanka, South Korea, the US, the Netherlands and places in between.
Gabriel will share a stage with acts from India, Norway, Morocco, Tanzania, Brazil and many more.
