Scottish fops Franz Ferdinand have spoken about their new album.
Vocalist Alex Kapranos and guitarist Nick McCarthy have spoken to UK radio station XFM about the new material they're currently working on, stating it's very different yet retains their "signature sound".Kapranos is quoted as saying, "It's a wee bit different from last stuff but still very danceable, that's the main thing. It's always pop. Franz Ferdinand has always been pop." He said that the pair have been writing new tunes in Glasgow.
The band are not going to play any of the forthcoming UK summer festivals because they are uncomfortable with not having any new material to play for hometown fans. Yet they are slated to play Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival from June 14-17 alongside The Police, Tool, The White Stripes, Wilco, Ben Harper, The Flaming Lips and more.
New material that may emerge before a second album could be their soundtrack work for a new film called 'Hallam Foe' by director David Mackenzie (whose films include 'Asylum' and Young Adam'). McCarthy wrote a song about the title character, a "likeable" peeping tom played by 'Billy Elliot's Jamie Bell.
