Google has announced over the weekend that they will close their Chinese only version of Google Music.
Apparently the closure comes after other Chinese search engines have eclipsed Google in popularity for mainland Chinese to access music from the web. Boon-Lock Yeo, head of Google's engineering and research teams in
China, announced the following reasons for the closure on the company blog last Friday " The popularity of this product turned out to be lower than we expected, therefore we decided to transfer resources to other products. "
Google launched the music search service in March 2009 and worked in conjuction with Chinese music website top100.cn in order to provide free and legal music in China.
