Hmmm, could be awesome, could go horribly wrong. One thing for certain, is that Beck fans will definitely purchase regardless of their ability to read music or play an instrument, and what a fun lil' old project for those that can.
NME has reported that Beck's new album " Song Reader" which comes in the form of sheet music only, will come with full colour art work for each song as well as a hardcover carrying case, (handy?).
Two of the 20 songs are instrumentals. The idea behind the release is for fans to play the songs and 'bring them to life' themselves.
It's all a bit outre but the concept is quite lovely, obviously there are going to be a million wankers either decrying or applauding the idea. The most recent notion in the positive was the from Lee Brackstone the publishing director of Faber Faber who are releasing the album of sheet music, he says " 'Song Reader' makes a radical statement about the value and importance of performed and recorded music at a time when these very things are under threat."
If you are not so musically inclined in playing and reading department, Beck will release selected renditions of the songs that will be featured on McSweeny's website. It's worth having a squiz right now, some of the accompanying artwork to the sheet music is on show and it's awesome.
