Lead singer of Boston, Brad Delp, has been found dead at his home in the early hours of Friday in New Hampshire. He was 55.
Although police have ruled out any suspicious circumstances, they will not release a report until Monday when they finish their investigation.Delp was reported by police to have been alone at the time.
Boston first rose to fame with their debut self-titled album featuring the now classic 'More Than A Feeling'. (Nirvana performed the song in their set in 1992).
The band was driven by the production and song-writing skills of Tom Scholz who was also the band's keyboard player. Barry Goudreau was on guitar, Fran Sceehan played bass and John 'Sib' Hashian was the original drummer.
Soon after the release of the Boston album in 1976, the band grabbed the record for the best-selling debut in history. They maintained the nod for 10 years before Whitney Houston surpassed them with her debut album.
1976's Boston also spawned the hits 'Long Time' and 'Peace of Mind'. Boston became a staple of 70's FM radio.
The second album 'Don't Look Back' was two years in the making. It was 8 years before the third album, 'Third Stage' in 1986. By that time, the band featured just Delp and Scholz.
Boston then took the full brunt of legal woes when they were sued by former member Goudreau and their label Epic. In 1994, the 4th album 'Walk On' was released but it only featured Scholz.
The last Boston album was 'Corporate America' in 2002.
Boston's website today just features a front page with the text "We've just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll'.
