For the first time in its 26-year history, SUMMERSTAGE, offers devoted fans the opportunity to celebrate contemporary Aussie music, fashion and art in the surrounds of New York City’s Central Park.

For one day only, on Saturday 18th August, the city of New York will be treated to a taste of Australia's thriving music scene in the form of a mini-festival that represents the most current and emerging sounds from Australia's backyard.

For all interested New York music fans here's a little bit about the Australian bands featuring on the bill;

HUSKY

"A shimmering fog of kaleidoscopic story telling, each song a Nick Drake-esque fairytale delivered with full indie-orchestration." Rolling Stone.

Headliners, and winners of Australia's Triple J Unearthed competition - an initiative for discovering the best new Australian musical talent – Husky bring us a love for classic pop, rich harmonies, and artful songwriting. Their music is transporting and ethereal, full of haunting lyrics, rolling rhythms and delicate layers of sound. Husky travel to New York after a run of sold out shows in Australia, and major supports for the likes of Devandra Banhart and Gotye.

SHEPPARD

"This is our first time performing in the United States and to be playing in fabulous New York City in the heart of Central Park representing Australia is a dream come true for all of us. We are going to start a park-wide Sheppard-style dance party!" - Sheppard.

Founded by siblings George, Amy and Emma Sheppard,Queensland's alternative pop band Sheppard perform with a desire to artistically and creatively express their take on the world and to engage the youth that live within it. With colourful melodies and an original style, they have amassed a strong international following and are constantly developing their local presence, bringing freshness to the international music scene with their alternative indie/pop sound and youthful vulnerability.

HIGH HIGHS

"Known for gently sweeping, rich harmonies and layered vocals and synths, these guys are quickly becoming indie darlings." - Huffington Post

"The ethereal quality of their music smacks of nature; bright, brooding, whatever you make of it, it's full of life." - Beats Per Minute

From Sydney to Brooklyn, an underground sensation across two continents, and the High Highs sound of slo–motion grace and quirky charm has given rise to popular confusion about where they should be pigeonholed. However, their distinctive brand of music really doesn't need a category. You just enjoy.

GEORGE BYRNE

"Absolutely delicious!" - The Brag Magazine (Indie Album of the Week)

"Slicker than a bag of eels in grease and addictive as chocolate flavored crack." Unpeeled - UK Online

Sydney born singer-songwriter, MTV composer, and photographer George Byrne, is captivating with his unique melodic style often described as "Pink Floyd Americana". Melodic and of high quality, Byrne's sound has led him to record with The Cardinals, The Motels, Jason Molina, Tori Amos and others, and a deal with Universal music.
