More than 7,000 fans, friends and family gave Billy Thorpe a send-off at his "final gig" at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Sunday (March 4, 2007).
The Australian rock legend, who died of a heart attack on Wednesday morning at the age of 60, received a well deserved all-star tribute from the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Peter Garrett, Rob Hirst, Glenn Shorrock, John Paul Young, Garry Beers, Reg Mombassa, Col Joye, Stevie Wright, Max Merritt and Normie Rowe.Journalist George Negus, actor Jack Thompson, promoter and best friend Michael Chugg and 60s star Little Patti, all spoke of their friendship and admiration for the guy Australia just called Thorpie.
His friend of more than 40 years, Olivia Newton-John, sang one of his early hits, the cover of Judy Garland's "Over The Rainbow". The Max Merritt sang his own number one hit "Slipping Away" for Billy. But it was the crowd who were the stars when they sang along to Billy's version of his signature tune "Most People I Know Think That I'm Crazy".
Thorpe leaves behind his wife of 35 years Lynn and daughters Rusty and Lauren.
