After six successful albums as lead singer of English rock band Supergrass, Gaz Coombes will release his debut solo album ‘Here Come The Bombs’ this Friday May 25th through Hot Fruit Recordings via Inertia.
Coombes says of working solo, "In a band, when you get a group of people who are walking the same
path, it can be the most beautiful thing. But with this I felt it was really focused on just what I wanted to get across, and on my inspirations. That was all really exciting. This is a completely blank page in a blank book, ready to be written on."
Expect sonic experimentation with pulsating grooves cut with distorted guitars and Coombes finding his voice through a cinematic, sci-fi induced soundscape. The off-kilter time signature of embraced lead single, "Hot Fruit" is a powerful statement of intent providing a suitably leftfield calling card for the album.
According to NME ""His first strides sound so exciting, 'Sub-Divider' making his beloved classic-rock stylings sound strange and otherworldly, and uncharacteristically sleek." The Guardian was similarly impressed, saying of Coombes " He can't escape his gift for writing songs with hooks you can hang a coat on."
'Here Come The Bombs' is out this Friday May 25th through Hot Fruit Recordings via Inertia.
