When Facebook public shares go on sale today Bono's smooth investment operations of the past will pay in a big way and possibly make him the richest muso in the world.
Classic Rock has reported that Bono's Elevation Partners equity firm bought 2.3% of Facebook back in 2009 for $90m, and that investment will be worth over $1.5bn – that's £940m – by close of business today.
Facebook said it would price 421,233,615 shares at $38 apiece, raising just over $16.01 billion. The shares will begin selling today under the symbol "FB". Bono will do well but not as well as Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg who owns roughly 534 million shares, which will give him a net worth of about $20.2 billion, in paper, at the opening of trading today.
