Cam Butler has been around for years. Having played in various outfits such as Cam Butler & The Shadows Of Love, The Coralinas, Ron S. Peno & The Superstitions, and instrumental super band Silver Ray, he has forged a musical identity easily recognisable for his love of the sound of strings.
His latest release "Save My Soul" is the follow up to Dark Times released in 2008 and features a 23 piece string orchestra, orchestral harp, timpani and percussion, drums, acoustic guitars and solo electric guitar. The result is the finest example yet of Cam's orchestral vision to combine modern electric guitar techniques and sound with string orchestras. Brisbanes Courier mail has described it thus "the results are euphoric, music that is cinematic and richly emotional...."
In keeping with the cinematic nature of the album Butler has engaged the help of 4 film makers (plus himself) to make a video to accompany each of the 5 tracks on the album. The film makers hail from Melbourne, Berlin and Kabul, Afghanistan and the visions they have created for the music of Save My Soul make for a true, immersive multi-media experience.
The good news is that Cam Butler plays a special screening of the 5 videos made for his awe-inspiring new album, Save My Soul, in Cinema 1 at ACMI on Thursday August 30. Cam says of the screening and performance " I am very excited to be able to perform and screen the Save My Soul videos at ACMI because the sound is superb, the seating is excellent for the audience and of course ACMI is custom built for presenting films beautifully."
