This one takes the cake. Although, considering one of the organisers of the Olympic ceremony contacted "The Who" to see if Keith Moon would be available, why are people surprised...
There is already trouble brewing with a public backlash to the announcement, including these responses from Twitter, novelist Tony Parsons reacted with this "Duran Duran to headline Olympic gig. Who is running the 1500 metres - Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett?". Author Tom MCLaughlin tweeted the following, "Duran Duran, Paulo Nutini, Stereophonics and Snow Patrol? We may as well just put Cameron's iPod on shuffle and be done with". Funny man Al Murray tweets "Duran Duran to headline 2012 Olympics gig. Far more worrying than rooftop missiles".
Of all the amazing, fabulous and talented artists the U.K have to offer.....Why Duran Duran? Who knows? Maybe David Bowie, The Faces, The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Elvis Costello etc were not available. But sheesh! Is Duran Duran the best they could do? Other bands on the bill will be Stereophonics, Snow Patrol and Paolo Nutini.
