Laura Wilde is an Australian female guitar playing mash-up of Joan Jett and Lita Ford and she's opening for Ted Nugent in the States.
Despite the cheesy Disney style surname "Wilde" the first sentence of her bio reads thus, " Don’t let the face of an angel and blonde hair fool you. Laura Wilde, the 22 year old fast-rising rock talent is armed with killer guitar riffs and a kick ass attitude to match." Kewl. Wilde released her debut album titled "Sold My Soul" in January 2012 and has been described by a fan on Amazon as "a badass on lead guitar and vocals through 11 tracks that have the power and grit of Motorhead and the radio ready appeal of Blondie and AC/DC." And this, which I find genuinely exciting from Shakefire.com " Laura Wilde's voice is not this smooth, even toned female voice that has this sound of near perfect levels. Instead what her voice sounds like is raw, untouched, no synthesizer enhance voice that has some rasps to it, she goes out of tune, her pitches go up and down, and she hits keys that shouldn't be hit during the song" Although not the most articulate description it sounds pretty rock n roll to me. Haven't heard the album so I can't vouch for what others have said, but it's probably definitely worth a listen.
In her own words she would like to be "recognized as someone who contributed something to rock and roll.” Bless her rock n roll socks. I get the feeling Laura Wilde has been aimed completely at the American market, you wouldn't guess she was from Melbourne Australia in the following clip.
