Andre Rieu is the hottest act in music stores in Australia right now. This week he amassed an incredible 6 titles on the ARIA DVD chart.
Dutch born Rieu is at number one with 'New York Memories'. He also has the number 8 spot 'Andre Rieu at Schonbrunn Wiener', number 9 'Live In Dublin', number 17 'The Flying Dutchman', number 25 'Songs From The Heart' and number 35 'Romantic Paradise'.The Rieu titles are flying out of stores but who is he? "He is the most important act the music industry has seen for the last 10 years," says Songland Records owner and founder Brian 'Frog' Harris. "He is appealing to the demographic that doesn't usually visit record stores, is not over-concerned about price point but is passionate about music".
In Europe, Rieu is called "the waltz king of Europe". In 1987, he put together his Johann Strauss Orchestra and debuted the group as a live act in 1988.
In 1994, Rieu released the 'From Holland With Love' album and triggered a waltz craze in his native country.
Rieu's DVD's are released through Universal Music.
