Who could say? One thing we do know is that one lucky band will be victorious in the "Wests Tigers Homeground Heroes" band competition and in doing so will play for 20,000 fans at the NRL Grand Final.
Tips for the top spot suggest Central Coast band "Smokin' Mirrors" might just pull it off. After placing first in a Facebook voting contest that pitted them against over 120 other artists from across NSW, the hard rockin' four-piece blitzed the first heat of the Wests Tigers band competition in February to be named Wests Tigers’ very first Band of the Week on the club’s Facebook page. After qualifying in a savagely contested semi-final last Thursday night, Smokin’ Mirrors nailed a spot in the Grand Final of the band comp which could see them play the NRL Grand Final.
Front woman Emmy Mack wears her rock n roll heart all over....not just her sleeve in commenting that “As a hard rock band trying to find an audience in a music scene that seems to have gone soft, playing to a stadium full of footy fans would be an absolutely explosive opportunity for us,” and added “Footy fans love their high-octane guitar-driven rock music – like Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, or Van Halen – and that’s exactly what we aim to deliver.”
Well, if they are anything like Guns N Roses, AC/DC or Van Halen and manage to win the" Wests Tigers Homeground Heroes" band competition, footy punters attending the NRL Grand Final will be in for a treat.
Smokin’ Mirrors will perform alongside eight other Homeground Heroes grand-finalists at Valve Bar in Tempe at an all-ages event this Thursday 29th March from 7pm, where a panel of judges will decide which band will take out the highly sort after stadium gig.
