Pioneering manager of Australian rock n roll, Vincent Lovegrove died on Saturday morning in a car crash on the north, east coast near Byron Bay aged 64.
Lovegrove was rock & roll through and through, having performed with Bon Scott in 60's band The Valentines (and later introducing Bon to AC/DC), managing Cold Chisel for a period in the 70's and The Divinyls for many,many years. As such, tributes from shocked friends and colleagues are making the rounds today.
ARIA posted a tribute to Lovegrove on their Facebook page yesterday, "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Australian music legend Vince Lovegrove, who passed away tragically yesterday in a car accident. A true pioneer of our industry, he will be missed by all."
Veteran rock n roll photographer Tony Mott told ABC's AM program this morning that both Vincent Lovegrove and Chrissy Amphlett were responsible for his career as a photographer.
Also talking to PM, author and rock journalist Toby Cresswell credited Lovegrove's management of the Divinyls stating "He managed the Divinyls for many years and it was Vince's single-minded obsession with the Divinyls that really made that work." Creswell also described Lovegroves energy and drive stating the following;
"He had this incredible energy that he just drove behind anything that he believed in, which was Australian music,"
