Apparently the songs on the new East 17 album "Dark Light" are, according to the press release “..as catchy as Summer of ’69 and as soft rock and big sounding as it gets.”
Catchy as "Summer of 69? As the old man from the Demtel sunglasses advertisement once said, "What the bloody hell is this?" The press release also states that the LP "showcases the band’s new transatlantic rock sound, reminiscent of bands like Kings Of Leon and U2 and even artists like Bryan Adams and Billy Joel”. Good grief. Sounds like a bleeding nightmare.
The original members of East17 form the current lineup and all songs are written by frontman Tony Mortimer. This is the bands first LP since 1999. They have obviously used the time from then until now to channel Bryan Adams, Billy Joel and U2. I don't believe we'll ever see the cheeky House of Love funsters in baggies again.
For oldtimes sake and an opportunity to picture these guys playing big sounding soft rock juxtaposed with imagery of their former selves, lets take a look at House of Love.
