Hard rock adventurers Karnivool and dusky indie blues experimentalists Snowman sweep the WAMis.
The 2007 West Australian Music Industry Awards were held on February 21 at Beck's Veranda, featuring performances from Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy, The Stems, Dave Hole and Double Entendre and the annual dishing of gongs.It was Karnivool's year, winning five of the six awards they were nominated for. The band, known for their melodic thoughtful take on nu-rock, scored nods for Most Popular Act, Most Popular Live Act, Best Hard Rock Act, Best Guitarist (Drew Goddard) and Best Male Vocalist (Ian Kenny, also of newcomers Birds Of Tokyo). The band are about to tour the US following a release of their 2005 debut 'Themata'.
Manic, outsider blues kids Snowman beat out Bob Evans, Eskimo Joe and The Panda Band to snare the Most Popular Album award for their self-titled debut of 2006. They also received the award for Best Rock Act and Most Popular Music Video.
Other notable wins include Eskimo Joe for Best Commercial Pop Act, Mink Mussel Creek for Most Promising New Act, Pendulum for Best Electronic Producer and Best Live Electronic Act and Downsyde getting yet another WAMi for Best Urban/Hip Hop Act.
