Canuck mall-punk princess Avril Lavigne releases her new single 'Girlfriend'.
After 2004's 'Under My Skin' album, the pseudo-punk chick finally grew out of her teens, toured, appeared at the Winter Olympics in Turin, and even did voiceover work in the Dreamworks animated film 'Over The Hedge'. Now she's back with a new single and album. On February 20, Lavigne debuted the first single 'Girlfriend' on her myspace and snippets of other songs on AOL's 'First Listen' service from her forthcoming album 'The Best Damn Thing'. The single comes is another cheeky, stomping pop-rock tune and was delayed for release due to the ongoing success of her Eragon soundtrack single 'Keep Holding On'.
The album is scheduled for release in early April and features production work from Dr.Luke (who has worked with fellow chartbusters Kelly Clarkson and Pink), Rob Cavallo (who takes the pop punk edge, previously working with Green Day and My Chemical Romance), Butch Walker (everything from Lindsay Lohan to Hot Hot Heat), plus her Sum 41 singer husband Deryck Whibley. Blink 182 and +44 drummer Travis Barker supplied drums.
