New Zealand band Mi-Sex have reformed with former Noiseworks and Electric Hippies Steve Balbi on vocals.
Original singer Steve Gilpin died in a car crash in New South Wales in 1992. His death brought the band to a sudden end.
Now, 20 years later, the ‘Computer Games’ hitmakers will tour Australia in November.
Mi-Sex formed in New Zealand in 1978. They named themselves after the Ultravox song ‘My Sex’.
In 1978, the band moved to Sydney and signed with CBS Records. Their debut album was produced by Peter Dawkins, who also produced the other big New Zealand band at the time, Dragon.
The first single from the ‘Graffiti Crimes’ album ‘But You Don’t Care’ was a chart hit in Australia but the big one was 1979’s ‘Computer Games’. It was a number one hit in Australia but also made the charts in Canada and South Africa.
In November 1991, Gilpin was in a car accident and went into a coma. He never recovered and died in Southport Hospital on January 6, 1992.
